Here’s a simple Action Plan to get your school started with the Litter & Waste theme for Green Schools.
Green Schools - Litter & Waste Action Plan

✅ Include students, teachers, and staff.
✅ Assign roles (e.g., Chairperson, Secretary, Communication Officer).
✅ Hold regular meetings to discuss progress.
Step 2: Conduct an Environmental Review
✅ Check how much waste the school produces daily/weekly.
✅ Identify common types of waste (paper, plastic, food waste, etc.).
✅ Assess the effectiveness of current recycling bins.
Step 3: Set Goals & Develop an Action Plan
✅ Reduce overall waste in the school by at least 20% over the year.
✅ Increase recycling efforts and ensure all bins are labeled correctly.
✅ Implement a “Waste-Free Lunch” initiative (encourage reusable containers).
✅ Introduce composting for food waste.
Step 4: Raise Awareness & Educate Students
✅ Hold an assembly to introduce Green Schools and explain the goals.
✅ Run classroom activities about waste management (sorting games, posters, etc.).
✅ Organize a schoolwide competition (e.g., “Best Waste-Free Lunch” challenge).
Step 5: Monitor & Evaluate Progress
✅ Conduct regular bin checks and waste audits.
✅ Keep a record of improvements (photos, charts, student reports).
✅ Get feedback from students and staff on what’s working.
Step 6: Engage the School & Wider Community
✅ Involve parents by sharing tips in school newsletters.
✅ Organize a community clean-up event.
✅ Work with local businesses to promote sustainability.
Step 7: Create a Green Code
✅ Have students come up with a short, catchy slogan to remind everyone of the school’s green commitment (e.g., “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Our School, Our Future!”).
✅ Display the Green Code around the school.
